Product Details
The collector's model at the entry-level price of the Porsche 356 SL Coupé cuts a fine figure anywhere: in the display case or on the desk. In 1948 and 1949, Porsche built 44 Type 356/2 coupés in Gmünd, Austria. A further eleven bodyshells[1] moved with them to Stuttgart and were built there. Thanks to their aluminum body, the light-alloy coupés offer the best conditions for motorsport. They weighed around 120 kilograms less than the steel-bodied 356s produced by Reutter in Stuttgart from April 1950 and were the first German sports cars to bear the "SL" suffix for "Super Light". In 1951, Porsche entered one of these 356 SLs in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time and won the class at the first attempt.
